If the equipment moves a mechanical engineer can work on it. Some examples are, in hydro plants they work on the generators, the valves the rotars. They can work on Ships with the engines, they can work on lift bridges.
This could be as simple as a Yo-Yo or as complexed as this computer. In simple terms, any device that produces a motion as a function to the final output.
I’m an aviation engineer and I first started out in propulsion systems. So my answer to your question would be engines of all kinds: jets, planes, helicopters and cars. I use to work on engines for aircraft all day every day when I first got out of college.
Another group that use to work in my building designed control systems for aircraft. Even the tail blade for a helicopter has a control system in it. The main rotor has a very complex one involved with it. My next door neighbor use to do weapon systems for the defense industry and the systems associated with weapons delivery is all control systems based.
