Haha, most people go to college for 4 years, work all their life as a Mechanical Engineer, and will never learn close to everything about it.
Your best bet is to surf over to the wikipedia page here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_engineering and do a little basic reading on the subject.
I guess that your main interest will be what you can earn.
In the Oil industry for example a 30 year experienced Mech Eng can expect to earn about $100,000 pa plus pension etc. If you stay as a design engineer then you may find your self designing major equipment like compressors, turbines, heat exchangers or maybe calculating the stress in structures like pylons or oil rigs.
It is a very versatile career and you can use the qualification to go on to do all sorts of management careeers or even banking finance. Opportunities to travel are excellent and you will usually be working in teams with other diciplines engineers like Chem Eng, Material scientists or Civil engineers.
A workd of warning, This is one of the harder university degrees so make sure that you are prepared to work 8 hours a day in lectures plus evening studies or else you may not pass.
You will have a good quality of life and will always be employed.
